First Post... introductions

Hello blogging world!

This is my first blog post on this site, and I hope to do quite a bit of blogging in regard to my current music projects. I did have a livejournal which you can checkout http://mikeygee2003.livejournal.com/. There you will find older posts and more archival work that deals with songs I've written in the past.

Anyway lets move beyond that introduction and tell you a little bit about myself (if you don't already know). My name is Mike, as of this date I am 20 years old, soon to be 21, and I am currently a student going for Graphic Design. I have been playing music for quite sometime now and been writing "real songs" for the past 5 years or so. Prior to that I had written songs, but they were rather bad and not fully developed. Let's see... more about me...hmmm. Well I play guitar, piano, drums, and bass. The only instrument of these I have ever had lessons for was drums, but even they were just for snare drum and I quit playing drums for the school band when I was around 12 or 13. I learned how to play guitar mostly on my own by trying to learn other peoples songs by tablature. As for piano I've played for a few years, first starting off which just chords but within the past year trying to do some more complex stuff (well complex to me...haha).

So why do I play and write music? Honestly it was because of my dad. He showed me the music of the Beatles back when I was only 5 or so, and I've been hooked since. He also was the one who tried to teach me how to play guitar. I owe so much of my music experience to him, because without him I would probably never be writing or playing music, which would really suck, and my life would be incomplete.

In terms of influences some bands/artists I look up to for inspiration are The Beatles/John Lennon/Paul McCartney, Radiohead/Thom Yorke, Pink Floyd, Beck, and Coldplay. Of course I like so many more artists but this are the main ones that I look up to for songwriting. However my musical influences go way beyond just bands. It also has a lot to do with people I know, places I've been to, and experiences I've had. Most times I draw my inspiration from my life because obviously it's what I know best.

Although I am currently a "solo artist" I would really like to make a band with friends and also collaborate with people as well.

Overall music is extremely important to me and without it I think as strange as it sounds my life would be extremely boring and meaningless. I find that music is one of the biggest things that defines me as a person. Because of that I love talking about music any chance I get... so if you wish to talk to me send me your instant messanger screename (AIM or MSN), and we can talk.

Be sure to stay tuned for more info about what i'm doing.
